In early December, Selene founder and designer Howard Chen and his team created a truly memorable experience for the yacht owners, dealers, journalists and workers gathered at the expanded Selene shipyard in Zhuhai.

Expanded Selene Shipyard Grand Opening a Huge Success

Guests from over a dozen countries came together from December 5-7 to celebrate the 400,000 sq. ft. expansion of Selene’s shipyard and marina in Zhuhai, China.

Featuring fireworks, traditional ‘lion’ dances, a gourmet banquet, and even a parade on the Pearl River of several new Selene yachts, the festivities had something for everyone. In attendance were international Selene dealers, yacht owners, local and international journalists, regional dignitaries, and importantly, the 200 talented workers who build Selene Yachts.

Several lucky new owners were able to see their yachts on the water for the first time. These included a sleek 64 Ocean Explorer with a multitude of custom options, a gorgeous 54 Classic Explorer, and a 49 Classic outfitted for travel in the Mediterranean. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the event below.

Guests also had the opportunity to tour the new state-of-the art facility alongside Selene founder and naval architect Howard Chen, who demonstrated new production methods, explained technical boat improvements and unveiled exciting plans for new Selene models (stay tuned!).

Popular YouTube trawler adventurists The 71 Percent even stopped by to take part in the festivities and tour the nearly complete Selene Ocean Explorer 64. Below, you can see the tour and hear what Nathan and Lindsey had to say.

In addition to expanding Selene’s production capacity, the expanded shipyard will allow for more advanced product development and testing, as well as enhanced quality control. Selene Americas invites and encourages all owners to visit the facility to experience the care that goes into their yachts and meet the people who make the Selene lifestyle possible.
